Essay & Video Contest Details

James White Library is sponsoring an essay and video contest as part of the library’s celebration of National Library Week, April 12-18. The theme of the contest is: “Libraries Change Lives.” There will be four categories of entries: Elementary School, Secondary School, Undergraduate, Graduate, and Faculty/Staff/Community. The deadline for submission of entries is April 6, 2015. Cash prizes will be given for first and second place in each category.

Essays will be judged on these criteria: support of the theme “Libraries Change Lives”, organization, creativity, language, grammar, spelling, and punctuation. Elementary school essays should be 300-400 words. All other essays should be 500-800 words. Essays should be submitted as a Word document to: .

Videos should be 2-3 minutes in length. Videos will be judged on these criteria: support of the theme “Libraries Change Lives”, creativity, organization, and quality of filming. Upload your video to YouTube and submit the video’s link to:
